The end of June often marks the start of those warm days we long for all year round. Sunlight glimmers on skin scented with sunscreen; the city slows to a languid pace in the heat, and picnic blankets spread out across the grass amidst fruit salads and barbecue spreads.
And right now, it is the little rituals that make summer so special.
Your favorite skirt comes out of the closet. An anklet finds its way back onto your ankle. A quick bike ride to the strawberry stand—a punnet of the sweetest berries tucked under your arm—before heading off to the nearest lake.
Lying in the dappled shade on the damp towel you used after a swim. Hair, still clammy from the water, blowing in the breeze. The buzzing of bees among the wildflowers. Sunscreen feeling sticky on your skin. The sensation of warm asphalt beneath your feet on the way home.
It isn’t the grand trips or the perfectly planned days that we remember later on. Often, it is the small moments that stay with us. The first ice cream of the evening. A friend’s laughter ringing a little too loudly across the water. A seashell slipped into a pocket, only to be rediscovered in the dead of winter.
And perhaps that is exactly why we wear certain pieces of jewelry all summer long. Not because they symbolize summer, but because they become part of those memories. An anklet that sways gently with every step. Tiny charms that evoke summer days long after the scent of sunscreen has faded from our skin.
For the loveliest summer rituals are often the ones we never plan—yet they stay with us forever.
